EFT Tapping through Grief and trauma.

If you have never heard of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and are struggling with your emotions as a result of a significant loss in your life, I would urge you to learn about the benefits of EFT, tapping as it is known. I have been using EFT for years now and can promise you that it really works. EFT is backed up by scientists and the medical profession over the years and is widely used now as a healing theraphy for trapped and surpressed emotions held in the mind and body.

What is EFT Tapping?

EFT although a relatively new discovery in the Western world, it is an Eastern discovery that has been around for over 5,000 years and is growing fast in the area of Energy Psychology.  Albert Einstein’s conclusion that our bodies as with all things is composed of energy.  EFT is the practice of releasing negative energy, it is practiced and endorsed by scientists, healers, counselors, spiritualists, medical and psychiatric as well as psychotherapies and many lay people who see the very real benefits.

EFT simply put is the process of tapping using the first two index fingers on specific energy meridian points which are located on the hand, top of the head, areas of the face and the side of the upper body. (Please see diagram below).  By tapping the specific areas whilst concentrating on an emotion you are feeling at that time, you release the negative energy associated with that particular emotion.  It is much like acupuncture without the needles.

How EFT Tapping impacts on our emotions

We all experience emotions every minute of every day, when we feel good emotions we feel good, we have energy, we are optimistic and happy.  When we experience negative emotions we don’t feel good.  When we experience the loss of a significant person in our lives the emotions we feel can be overwhelming, the excruciating pain of loss can leave us paralyzed, numb as well as: immense sorry and sadness, pain, loss, loneliness, guilt, anxiety, bitterness, abandonment, confusion, fear, betrayal, dismay, anguish and depression.  Sometimes we can feel that we are stuck, unable to move forward, our emotions swirling around like a runaway rollercoaster that never stops. 

The impact of our emotions

Our minds work 24/7 365 days and the thoughts we think impact on the emotions we feel every second of every day. When we are grieving those emotions seem to take over without our conscious thought, these emotions can manifest both mentally and physically in many ways including; crying, lack of interest in life, depression and a feeling of hopelessness,  a deep feeling of profound sadness which are all normal and natural.

How tapping can help with grief and loss?

When we have these emotions in our bodies they can become blockages and can result in loss of appetite, fatigue, not being able to sleep, exhaustion and many more. When you tap the appropriate pressure points the body releases those blockages within the energy system and allows the natural flow of energy back in the body.  By focusing the root causes of e.g. anger, sorrow, pain it helps remove the blockage. It is widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms of dis-ease and for this reason this technique is being used for physical issues with amazing results.

How to tap

Think about how you are feeling in this moment, do you feel immense sadness or anger etc… On a scale between 1-10 how badly do you feel?

Using your first two index fingers tap on the karate chop as per the above diagram saying the following:

Even though I feel this immense sadness, I completely love and respect myself. Tap on the karate chop saying this for a few rounds.

Then move to eyebrow, side of the eye, between the eyes, under the eye, under the nose, the chin, collarbone, under the arm repeating the same sentence as you go.
